Stories from us

John Richardson

The Koç School / Teacher

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I was born in Wales some time ago. I have two daughters and four grandchildren.  Teaching has been my occupation for 42 years, over a quarter of that time I have been in the Koç School. The first time I came to teach here was in 1996 when John Chandler was principal. He phoned me up at the end of August and offered me a job, as he needed a teacher and had heard good things about me from Search Associates. I arrived at the Koç School the following week.

Tell us about how you first became acquainted with the Vehbi Koç Foundation and your connection?
I love teaching in Turkey and at the Koç School. All my years here have been exciting for me. The Koç School has provided me with the students and the conditions that have kept me in love with teaching. For this, too, I am very grateful. I was thrilled when Mr. Robert Lennox and Mr. Koray Özsaraç invited me back to serve my school as a mentor.

Your future plans?
I hope to do one more year and then retire to gardening and amateur dramatics.

What would you like to tell us about your school?
This school is one of the best schools in the country and one day will be the very best.  The Koç  School will take an honoured place among the great schools of the world.
