New Approaches in Civil Society Conference

Organized on November 21-22, 2013 at Kadir Has University with the support of the Sabancı Foundation and the Vehbi Koç Foundation for the 20th anniversary of TÜSEV, the New Approaches in Civil Society Conference was a well-attended forum where civil society’s next decade was discussed.

Speakers from Turkey and abroad with expertise in different aspects of civil society, civil society representatives and public representatives participated in the sessions where civil society today and for the next 10 years was opened for discussion.

The sessions began after opening remarks from Prof. Üstün Ergüder, the chairman of the TÜSEV Board of Directors and Board of Trustees, and Prof. Saad Eddin Ibrahim, the founder of the Ibn Haldun Center and a sociologist who is one of Egypt’s leading human rights defenders. For two days, civil society, public representatives, academicians and students had an opportunity to discuss the future of civil society and trends while sharing their experience in the meetings attended by about 180 people. The Boğaziçi Jazz Chorus gave a concert at the cocktail held on the first day of the conference, which included 4 plenary and 6 parallel sessions.
