Meşher
A reference point through academic research
A historical landmark building, Meymenet Han on Istanbul’s famous Istiklal Street, will function as a new arts and culture hub called Meşher. Meymenet Han previously hosted Vehbi Koç Foundation’s contemporary art space, Arter, from the year 2010 to 2019. Meşher, meaning “exhibition space” in Ottoman Turkish, was founded in 2019, the year which marked Vehbi Koç Foundation’s 50th anniversary, to support new dialogues across times and cultures through comprehensive exhibitions on wide range of topics including historical research and contemporary art; and also event series such as workshops and conferences.
With a 500 square meter exhibition space and 75 square meter activity area, Meşher aims to be a reference point through its extensive program stretching from Middle Ages to present day, its academic approach based on research, and its publications. Meşher will be open to visitors six days a week except Mondays with no entrance fee.
