The Face of Civilization at the Mediterranean: AKMED

The Suna & İnan Kıraç Research Center for Mediterranean Civilizations (AKMED), inaugurated in 1996, is part of the Vehbi Koç Foundation and chartered to support scientific research aimed at documenting, conserving and restoring the historical, archaeological, ethnographical and cultural assets in and around Antalya, and interpreting the deeprooted relationships in the Mediterranean region. Becoming a research center linked Koç University in 2016, AKMED organizes an annual conference series, publishes research, offers grants and support programs for archeological excavations. The Kaleiçi Museum opened after the meticulous restoration (1993-1995) of two buildings, which were listed as protected cultural assets in Kaleiçi, Antalya and acquired by Suna and İnan Kıraç.
