History | |
|
The American Hospital was first established in 1920 by Admiral Mark L. Bristol and is Turkey’s first non-profit private hospital. A nursing school – also Turkey’s first - was established at the same time and has since become an inseparable and essential part of the hospital. In 1995 and following a board decision of The American Hospital of Istanbul, a non-profit organization based in New York, ownership of the hospital was transferred to the Vehbi Koç Foundation. Initially set up in 1920 with the help of the Red Cross and the American High Commission in a wooden mansion in Istanbul’s Çarşıkapı district, the American Hospital moved to its present venue in Istanbul’s Nişantaşı district in 1939. The Vehbi Koç Foundation carried out large-scale renovations and extension projects in the 1995-1999, 2000-2002, 2002-2004 and 2004-2007 periods. |
