A book that sheds light on the History of Nursing in Turkey
In honour of the centennial of accepting nursing as a profession and providing uninterrupted nursing education, Vehbi Koç Foundation, during Nurses Week between May 12-18, published a book that sheds light on the history of nursing starting in the Ottoman era. The book authored by Prof. Nuran Yıldırım tells how hardships from wartime to present day have been overcome and what has been done to educate the nurses of the future.
Vehbi Koç Foundation, encouraged by Semahat Arsel, established its first private fund, the V.K.V. Nursing Fund, 40 years ago with the aim of bringing permanent solutions to the nursing profession, and contributing to the education of nurses with ethical standards and values that nursing requires. Founded in 1992, the aim of Semahat Arsel Nursing and Education-Research Center (SANERC) is to support the career development of professional nurses. In 2010 SANERC received international accreditation for its post-graduate nursing education program from the United States most popular nursing accreditation centre, American Nurses Credentialing Centre (ANCC), and became Turkey’s first and only internationally accredited centre.
