Professor Çiğdem Kağıtçıbaşı passed away
Prof. Çiğdem Kağıtçıbaşı, the Director of Koç University Gender Studies Center (KOÇ-KAM) and Professor of Psychology at Koç University has passed away on March 2, 2017. Prof. Kağıtçıbaşı, in whose name UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality and Sustainable Development was established recently, was also a member of the Executive Board of The Koç School. Prof. Kağıtçıbaşı specialized in social/cultural psychology and was also the writer of many valued books in her field. Prof. Kağıtçıbaşı was the former president and fellow of the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology and was the Vice-President of the International Social Science Council and International Union of Psychological Science. She has received many awards, such as for “Distinguished Scientific Contributions” from American Psychological Association (1993), International Association of Applied Psychology (1998), and European Association of Developmental Psychology (2007). She was a founding member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences and is presently a member of the Science Academy. Prof. Kağıtçıbaşı had an ongoing project funded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) on intervention programs with early adolescents to promote overall well-being and positive youth development.
